Recuerden
que el lunes 18 es el último día para enviar al correo de tu profe
la fotografía del trabajo que se marcó el pasado viernes (ver
entrada de este blog del viernes 8) sobre el coronavirus.
Today
our conversation assistant, Hanna,
presents us with a great lesson about the coronavirus from her city,
Corpus Christi (Texas, United States of America). And she invites you
to write, in English, a question to her email (
hannaakinzel@gmail.com)
about something else you want to learn about the
coronavirus.
Nuestra
auxiliar de conversación nos presenta una gran lección sobre el
coronavirus desde su ciudad, Corpus Christi (Texas.Estados Unidos de
América).
Today's
activity will consist of three steps. 1º Watch the video.2º Read a
summary of what she has said. 3º Complete a worksheet about
coronavirus.
1º)-Watch
the video. Hanna´s lesson.
2º)
Read this summary:
What
is a virus? Is it a non-living thing? Is it a living thing? It is
a non-living thing. There are many reasons to explain why is a
non-living thing. The most important reason is that a virus can not
survive or live outside our host. A host is a living organism
(humans, animals…) It can not live by itself. It only lives for a
small amount of time and eventually die.
The
coronavirus has spikes (picos). They stick (se pegan) your hands
and other surfaces and bind (se unen) with your cells in your body.
They have got many spikes.
Why do
we call it coronavirus? Under a microscope, it looks like a crown.
The spikes look like a crown around the virus.
The
virus has a single strand of RNA (tiene un único material
genético). Do humans have RNA? No. To be a living thing it has to be
DNA.
What
are the symptons of coronavirus? Fever, cough, difficult breathing,
muscle pains, tiredness and you can loose taste and smell.
How is
coronavirus transmitted? By respiratory droplets. The
estimated incubation period is about 2-14 days. If you think you were
exposed, you should be isolated, at least, 14 days.
What
can you do to prevent the spreading (expansión) and catching the
coronavirus? Avoid contact with sick people. Wash your hands with
soap and water. If you developed cough, use face masks or a medical
face masks when you go to public places.
Do you
have any questions about coronaviruses? Send a message to Hanna.
3º
Complete a worksheet about coronavirus.
It includes a video. That one and Hanna´s video will help you to
complete successfully this funny worksheet.
When
you finish, press “CHECK YOUR ANSWER”. You don´t have to send
the answers to the teacher. It is a self-learning activity.
PLAN B
Si falla el enlace (porque está conectado a una web muy solicitada estos días por colegios de todo el mundo y a veces da problemas), opta por el plan b: Responde a estas preguntas. Answer these questions about Hanna´s lesson and send your answers to your teacher´s email account.
1) Is a virus a living thing or a non living thing?
2) Can a virus live by itself?
3) How is coronavirus transmitted?
Have a nice weekend!
